Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is a nonprofit. LSSI offers a variety of social services throughout the state of Illinois. Services include affordable housing, foster care, behavioral health services, developmental disabilities services and home care. LSSI is the largest foster care agency in Illinois.
Objectives
Redesign the homepage and service pages with the following goals:
- Improve usability of navigation
- Change homepage layout to accommodate short and long-term needs of different departments
- Build pages for services which did not have a page, but needed one

Website Architecture
- Worked with Senior Director of Communications to create sitemap for service pages
Design
- Created layouts for the homepage and service pages
- Changed link styles to add consistency; each page had a different color for links and no styles for visited links
- Added breadcrumbs to help website visitors identify where they are in the site
- Approved by Senior Director of Communications
Development
- Coded website changes with CSS, HTML, PHP and JavaScript
Improvements Over the Years
- Changed the 1-level drop down menu to a megamenu
- Redesigned the “Find a Program” page to make it easier to use
- Tweaked code to improve Lighthouse audit scores
